A Long Weekend in Charming Newport, Rhode Island

Rhode Island is a beautiful seaside New England state that has one of my favorite cities, Newport! Newport is known for their mansions, cliff walk, America’s Cup yacht race and so much more.

Here are my go-to places to see, what to do and where to eat in charming Newport.

When traveling to Newport take a tour of the mansions, or at least one! We toured the Breakers and Elms. Buy your ticket online and tour the beautiful mansion(s), learn about the history, explore the gardens and soak up the views.

Walking the cliff walk is one of the most scenic views in Newport. Take in the beautiful water views, beach views, rocks, and look at the beautiful homes + buildings. This is an absolute must!

There are two great sporting museums to visit; International Tennis Hall of Fame and National Sailing Hall of Fame. We explored the tennis half of fame, but look forward to visiting the sailing hall of fame on our next trip.

For a relaxing day, go to Thames Street and walk around the harbor, take a boat tour, shop and get a bite to eat! This is one of my favorite areas to walk around and look at all the beautiful sailboats!

Where to eat:

When traveling, I like to eat at local and unique places. Here are a few of my favorite places to eat in Newport!

I highly recommend having lunch or dinner on The Lawn at Castle Hill Inn. Sip a glass of Rose, eat a delicious lobster roll, steak or Greek wrap and take in the stunning views!

The White Horse Tavern is the oldest tavern in the United States. The colonial tavern was established in 1673 making it the oldest restaurant in the USA and 10th in the world. We sat inside and were taken back to the 17th century with the charm and decor. My husband and I both had the steak and frites - delicious!

Pasta Beach in Newport was perfect for a late afternoon lunch after touring mansions. It’s in the historic area of Newport and so cute. You will definitely feel like you’re on vacation with the tropical decor and an Aperol Spritz!

I hope you enjoyed this blog and learning more about Newport! Comment below if you’ve been and where your favorite place is!
